Colonel Shawn Myers enrolled in the CF in June 1982, and graduated from the Royal Roads Military College, Victoria in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics.

Upon completion of his training with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Branch, he was posted to Lahr, Germany and served as a platoon commander in both the Base Maintenance Workshop and 4 Service Battalion, finishing with a tour as the Maintenance Officer of that unit. In 1990, he was posted to the Canadian Forces School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering where he served as an instructor in Field Platoon and as the School Operations Officer. During his time at the School, he attended the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College.

On promotion to Major in 1994, Colonel Myers served as the operations officer in Project Management Office Military Operational Support Trucks (MOST) in NDHQ. From 1995 to 1996, he deployed for a one-year tour in Croatia in the HQ of the United Nations Peace Force, first as the Military Assistant to the COS and then as the senior planner of the HQ. On return to Canada, he served in the Director Land Equipment Resource Management as J4 Land Equipment and the unit operations officer until March 1998, when he was posted as the G4 2 CMBG Petawawa.

Upon promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1999, Colonel Myers served as the Commanding Officer of the National Support Element Roto 1 Task Force KINETIC in KOSOVO. In 2000, following his tour, he attended the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College. From 2001 to 2004, he served in posts as the Director Land Equipment Resource Management 4 in NDHQ and as the G4 Plans on the Land Staff. In 2004, he deployed for one year as both the Commander Task Force GOLAN and the Commanding Officer of the UN LOGBATT. In 2005, following his tour, he served as the G4 Operations on the Land Staff. From 2006 to 2007, he completed the Advanced Military Studies Programme and French language training. In 2007, he served as the Director Land Equipment Program Staff - 4 at NDHQ. 

Colonel Myers was promoted to his present rank in June 2008 and appointed as Director Armoured Vehicle Program Management and the EME Branch Advisor.
