Colonel D.L. Wingert, CD

Colonel Douglas Wingert was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on 31 May 1954.

He enrolled in September 1973 under the Regular Officer Training Plan, he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in May 1976 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.

He completed his Electrical Mechanical Engineer training and was posted to the Combat Training Center in 1977. At CFB Gagetown he was the commander of several platoons of the Unit Maintenance Group providing first line maintenance support to the various Army schools. From August 1978 to February 1979, he was attach posted to Logistic Operations, 73 Service Battalion deployed at Ismailia, Egypt as part of the United Nations Emergency Force.

After completing French language training at CFB Calgary, Colonel Wingert was posted in July 1981 to be the Unit Maintenance Officer for the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadian). He subsequently served as G1 with 1 Canadian Brigade Headquarters from July 1983 to July 1985. On promotion to Major, he was posted to the Combat Service Support Section in Mobile Command Headquarters but was posted back to CFB Calgary to be the Maintenance Company Commander, 1 Service Battalion in 1988. In 1990, he was deployed with the United Nations in Namibia, commanding a Canadian logistic contingent from 1 Service Battalion.

On promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1990 he was posted to National Defence Headquarters. From 1990 to 1998 he served as the Deputy Project Manager for Project Management Office Light Armoured Vehicles and as Life Cycle Manager for Military Pattern Vehicles. As well, he worked in the Management, Command and Control Reengineering team. When promoted to Colonel in 1998, he was appointed as the Director Personnel Plans in the Military Human Resources Group. He was appointed to be Special Assistant to the Vice Chief of Defence Staff in December 1999.

In January 2002, he attended the National Security Study Course in Toronto. On 25 July 2002, he took command of 202 Workshop Depot. Since May 2005 he is Director Land Equipment Program Staff and EME branch advisor.
