Canadian Armed Forces celebrate Montreal’s 375th anniversary!

 2nd Canadian Division and Joint Task Force East invite you to celebrate Montreal with members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as part of the festivities marking the 375th anniversary of the city. From 12 to 20 May 2017, a number of activities, including two amazing air shows, will be held for the public in the Old Port of Montreal.

The City of Montreal has a rich military history whose traditions are still very much alive today. To celebrate this heritage, the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force have come up with an exclusive program.

Program (all activities are free!)

  • Visit a warship: Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) MONTRÉAL will welcome visitors during the following periods:
    -       From 9 am to 12 pm on 13, 14, 15 and 17 May
    -       From 9 am to 4 pm on 12, 19 and 20 May
  • Military music concert “Hommage à Montréal”: on May 13, at 12:30 pm, join us at the Quai de l’Horloge for a unique military music concert celebrating Montréal’s vibrant music culture and diversity. Special guests: Jazz pianist Julie Lamontagne and the Black Watch Pipes & Drums.
  • Air shows: At 2 pm on 13 and 14 May, the Canadian Forces Parachute Team (the SkyHawks), the CF-18 Hornet fighter aircraft and 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron teams, and the air demonstration team, the Snowbirds, will put on a breathtaking show over the Old Port of Montreal. The event will also be broadcast live on
  • Freedom of the city: On 14 May, Montreal military units will gather at 11 am at Montreal City Hall to exercise their freedom of the city. A ceremony will be held with the Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, followed by a parade that will take the soldiers to the site of the military exhibit in the Old Port of Montreal.
  • Exhibit of military vehicles and equipment: On 14 May, soldiers will be on hand to present their vehicles and equipment from 11 am to 6 pm at Place Saint-Laurent, in the Old Port of Montreal, and to meet and speak with the public.
  • Military parade: On May 17, a large military parade will start from City Hall and will make its way to Notre Dame Basilica. The activity will be held in the morning to the sound of a hundred church bells after high mass. A ceremony will be held at Place d’Armes with the laying of a wreath of flowers and a military bonfire. The start time of the parade is to be announced.
