A fighter…

… active in combat wherever the security and safety of Canadians is threatened.

It’s all part of being in Canada’s Army today…

3rd Canadian Division is one of five divisions within the Canadian Army. Known as 3 Can Div, it is the “Army in the West.”…

Over ten thousand strong, the regular, reserve and civilian members of 3rd Canadian Division live out the challenges and opportunities of Canada’s Army as it shapes itself into a force ready to take on the threats to a stable world…

3rd Canadian Division prepares and delivers highly competent, combat ready troops - every team, and every individual, ready to approach the task at hand with confidence and professionalism…

Training ranges from the safe transport of vehicles and supplies across the country or around the world…

… to handling a variety of weapons that could be used during traditional warfighting operations or asymmetric threats such as a suicide bomber …

… to conducting a cordon and search for weapons and explosives …

… to interacting with members of the local community and non-governmental organizations..

Specialized training is given to those in many recognized areas of expertise such as engineers who design and build roads and bridges …

Computer specialists who support the modern army’s communications and information technology …

Vehicle mechanics who keep every kind of Army vehicle on the move…

And those in community relations functions like those carried out by the Royal Canadian Artillery Band…

Whatever their role, every Canadian soldier is part of the same team…

The soldiers of 3rd Canadian Division are major players in fulfilling Canada’s defence commitments overseas…

Since the end of the cold war, soldiers from 3rd Canadian Division have seen service in Cyprus, Kuwait, Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan, as well as numerous small missions around the world…

At any given moment, 3rd Canadian Division soldiers are preparing for, engaging in or returning from a mission that directly contributes to peace and international security…

However, the Army must first and foremost protect Canadians at home and the sovereignty of Canadian territory…

3rd Canadian Division soldiers take an active role in times of crises, providing armed and unarmed assistance to civil authorities against threats to national security or assisting in natural emergencies, such as the 2013 Alberta floods…

Over 2,000 3rd Canadian Division soldiers supported provincial authorities by evacuating persons at risk, providing mobility assistance to law enforcement, protecting critical infrastructure, and providing logistical support…

1,500 soldiers helped battle the rising waters in Manitoba’s Assiniboine River, and in 2003 soldiers assisted local authorities by fighting fires in British Columbia…

Each member of 3rd Canadian Division is truly today’s Canadian soldier – ready for the mission ahead…

3rd Canadian Division (3 Cdn Div) is one of four operational commands of the Canadian Army. 3 Cdn Div is responsible for all Canadian Army administration and operations in western Canada from the Pacific Ocean to Thunder Bay, Ontario.
