Major B. Leblanc  and brother, Petty Officer, First Class (PO 1) G. Leblanc  were awarded the Alexa’s Team Award along with 313 other officers, for their contribution as police officers to reduce the level of impaired driving on BC’s roads.

Major Leblanc serves with the 5th Field Regiment, as the 2nd in command of the regiment, whilst his brother PO1 Leblanc serves with HMCS Malahat. Both brothers are also serving members of the Victoria Police.

The Award is named after Alexa Middelaer, a 4 year old girl who was killed in an impaired driving incident. Her parents challenged the Province to reduce impaired driving by 35% by 2013, the year their daughter would have turned 10.

In February the Ministry of Justice announced a 52% reduction of alcohol related deaths representing 190 lives saved. Around the Province  “Alexa’s Team” were responsible for the 50% of impaired driving enforcement.
