39 Canadian Brigade Group Commander's Commendation

Master-Bombardier Jason Kai-Yuan Cheung5th (British Columbia) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, Victoria, British Columbia

On April 20, 2012, MBdr Cheung saved a fellow soldier from grievous harm or even death when he, upon seeing a vehicle speeding towards them, shoved the other soldier over a guard rail out of danger; before he himself jumped clear.

The other vehicle would likely have crushed the two between itself and another vehicle. MBdr Cheung's quick thinking saved them both, and serves as an example to look after your fellow soldiers.

Canadian Army Commander Commendation

Chief Warrant Officer Brian John Lougheed, CD5th (British Columbia) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, Victoria, British Columbia

On September 4, 2012 CWO Lougheed observed a boat that was in peril. He immediately rushed to the aid of a senior citizen whose boat had capsized and was sinking.

Once finding the man he pulled him aboard his own vessel and began treating for hypothermia. Maintaining a clear mind he placed the appropriate distress calls and notifications to Emergency crews and brought the man to medical aid. His actions saved the man from the likelihood of death.
