CWO Cavanagh

Chief Warrant Officer Cavanagh joined the Canadian Forces in January of 1988. After completing his basic training he was posted to 1st Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Calgary, Alta. He deployed to Cyprus on a United Nations mission 1991 and in 1994 he served on a second U.N. mission, this time to Croatia.

In 1999, CWO Cavanagh deployed on a NATO mission to Kosovo with 1 PPCLI’s Reconnaissance Platoon. After he returned from Kosovo, CWO Cavanagh remained in 1 PPCLI and served as a platoon warrant officer. In 2001 he was posted to the Infantry School in Gagetown, N.B. where he delivered training in infantry and leadership skills to junior Army officers.

In 2003 CWO Cavanagh was posted to 2 PPCLI in Shilo, Man., where he served in various positions, including Reconnaissance platoon warrant officer and Sergeant-Major of Administration Company. In 2008 CWO Cavanagh deployed to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan as a rifle company Sergeant-Major. Upon completion of the tour he was posted to Director Military Careers in Ottawa as the NCM Career Manager for the PPCLI.

In January 2011 CWO Cavanagh was promoted to his current rank and appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of 3 PPCLI in Edmonton, Alta. He was appointed Sergeant-Major of the Canadian Contribution Training Mission-Afghanistan, in March 2011 and subsequently deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan.

CWO Cavanagh is married to his very supportive wife of 23 years Brenda who share a daughter Jamie, and son Riley.
