Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Reid joined the Canadian forces in June 1983 as an Infantryman. Upon enrolment, he underwent basic training at Canadian Forces Recruit School in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia and Infantry trade training at the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) Battle School in Wainwright, Alberta. Subsequent to Battle School he was posted to 2 PPCLI in Winnipeg, Manitoba and remained as a member of C Company until June 1984 when 2 PPCLI was transferred to Baden Soellingen, West Germany and became a member of Anti-Armour Platoon.
When 2 PPCLI returned to Canada in summer 1988 he was promoted to the rank Master Corporal and returned to C Company as a Section Second in Command and later as a Section Commander. In the spring of 1990 he was a member of Op Snow Goose in Cyprus and upon his return in the fall completed his Anti-Armour Section Commanders Course followed by Small Arms Instructors Course in the spring of 1991. In December of 1991 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and completed time as a Section Commander in a Rifle Company and in Anti-Armour Platoon. In 1992 he completed a tour of duty in Croatia and on his return was transferred as an instructor to the PPCLI Battle School in Wainwright, Alberta. While there he completed his Platoon Second in Command Course and in the summer of 1997 transferred back to 2 PPCLI in Winnipeg into a Platoon Second in Command position and was promoted to Warrant Officer in the spring of 1999 and completed 2 more tours of duty in Bosnia as a Platoon Second in command for a Rifle Company and as the Battalion Transport Warrant Officer.
As a Warrant Officer he was Quarter Master for B Company, Combat Support and Administration Company until January 2006 when he was promoted and transferred to 1 PPCLI in Edmonton. During that time he received Chief of Defence Staff Commendation for Leadership as Rear Party Sergeant Major. In 2008 he joined 3 PPCLI’s Operational Mentor and Liaison Team as Headquarter Sergeant Major and later as a Kandak Regimental Sergeant Major mentor. He worked extensively with the Afghanistan National Army, American and British Forces during his tour of duty. Upon his return he rejoined 1 PPCLI as Company Sergeant Major for Administration Company.
In spring 2009 he was sent to 2 PPCLI as their Quarter Master Sergeant Instructor until his promotion in spring 2011. On June 24, 2011 he was appointed as Regimental Sergeant Major at Canadian Forces Base Suffield.
CWO Reid currently resides in Medicine Hat. He looks forward to the challenges of his new appointment and getting to know the people on base and in surrounding communities.
